UTICA, NY – Senior Kristen Prohaska scored a goal and handed out a pair of assists and fellow senior Caleigh Cahoon scored twice as the Nazareth College Women's Soccer team won a 4-1 decision Sunday afternoon at Utica.
Nazareth (3-0) opened the scoring in the seventh minute as freshman Alexandra Skoda picked up a loose ball in the 18-yard box and sent a shot into the back of the goal for the early lead.
Cahoon made it a 2-0 lead less than six minutes later as she finished a crossing pass after Prohaska had dribbled in from the right side of the field into the 18-yard box.
Utica (0-1) trimmed the lead with the first goal allowed by Nazareth this season with 2:12 left in the opening half. The play started with a long free kick that bounced off a couple players in front of the goal before the Pioneers tapped in the loose ball to make it a 2-1 game.
Nazareth had chances early in the second half to extend the lead but it was Cahoon with her second goal of the game midway through the half with another pass from Prohaska that regained the two-goal advantage.
In the 81st minute, Prohaska capped the scoring with her goal from the far post after a long crossing pass from sophomore Geena Morotti.
Nazareth dominated play with a 37-2 shots advantage and a 23-1 shots on goal edge. The Golden Flyers also had all six corner kicks in the contest.
The Golden Flyers will face Houghton College Wednesday afternoon on the Golden Flyer Stadium grass field with a 4 p.m. start.
