ROCHESTER, N.Y. –
Elie Fallieras scored the game-winning goal with 5:30 left Friday to lift Nazareth to a 2-1 women's hockey victory over Hamilton in a non-conference game at the Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex.
The Golden Flyers, ranked ninth nationally by USCHO.com, had their standing put to the test by the Continentals, who dropped to 4-3 overall. Nazareth remained unbeaten at 11-0-0 and will close out its first-semester schedule Saturday with a non-conference home game against Amherst at 3 p.m.
Fallieras' goal was her fifth of the season and snapped a 1-1 deadlock less than a minute after Hamilton had tied the score.
Gabriella DeMeo took the initial shot that was saved by Hamilton goaltender Sidney Molnar. The rebound trickled out toward Fallieras, who finished off the play.
Madison Nichols also gained her team-leading 16th assist.
Hamilton had chances in the closing minutes to re-tie the game as the Continentals pulled Molnar in favor of an extra skater, but Nazareth goaltender
Adrianna Brehm made eight of her 23 saves in the third period to gain her sixth victory of the season.
The game was scoreless through the first period and most of the second, but Nazareth finally broke the ice at 17:38 as Nichols finished off a centering pass from
Hailey Redders for her seventh goal of the season.
That goal held up until 13:49 of the third period when Hamilton's Abby Smith tied the score.
Nazareth had a 29-24 edge in shots on goal and neither team was able to capitalize on the power play. Nazareth had four chances, Hamilton three.
Making her sixth start of the season in goal, Brehm gained her 39th career victory.
