Nazareth blanks Chatham again, 4-0, to complete weekend sweep

Golden Flyers (4-0) host Wilkes Friday and Saturday

PITTSBURGH -- Junior Makenna Wiljanen scored a pair of goals and senior goaltender Adrianna Brehm amassed 16 saves for her second straight shutout win as Nazareth downed Chatham, 4-0, for their second women's hockey victory of the weekend.

The victory was the third straight by shutout for the Golden Flyers, who improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference. The Cougars dropped to 0-4. Nazareth also defeated Chatham 6-0 on Friday.

Nazareth has opened the 2021-22 season with a 26-1 scoring differential with Brehm the beneficiary on three of those victories. Her 15th career shutout resulted in her goals-against average plummeting to 0.33 for the season. Her save percentage is a sparkling .977.

With her two goals Saturday, Wiljanen leads the Golden Flyers' balanced offensive attack with seven points on three goals and four assists. Hailey Redders and Elie Fallieras also scored for Nazareth.

Redders opened the scoring at 12:40 of the first period off a pass from Gabriella DeMeo.

The score went unchanged until the second period when Wiljanen and Fallieras scored just 64 seconds apart to give Nazareth a 3-0 edge.

Wiljanen's second goal came at 3:29 of the third period with an assist from freshman Ivey Lyden.

Nazareth had a 48-16 advantage in shots on goal with Katy Reed delivering 44 saves for the Cougars.

The Golden Flyers are back home at the Bill Gray's Iceplex next weekend for UCHC games against Wilkes Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2.
