BUFFALO, NY – Senior Hailey Redders had a goal and three assists and fellow senior Madison Nichols added a goal and two assists as the Nazareth College Women's Hockey team downed Buffalo State 8-0 and won for the second consecutive day over the Bengals.
Nichols broke the ice with her first goal of the season in the first period. Redders and freshman Sydney Swanson were credited with assists as Nazareth (2-0) took the early lead.
The Golden Flyers added three more goals in the second period as sophomore Emma Hayes and junior Morgan Leuenberger each scored their first goals of the year and Redders scored with less than 30 seconds remaining in the period. Both Nichols and Redders had assists on the Hayes goal and senior Nikolle Van Stralen had the helper on the Leuenberger tally.
Van Stralen scored to open the third period with an assist from Redders and sophomore Julia Holmes made it a 6-0 lead three minutes later as junior Makenna Wiljanen and senior Keeley Rose assisted on the play.
Swanson scored with three minutes to play as Nichols picked up her second assist of the game before freshman Ivey Lyden scored an unassisted goal with 1:26 left to cap the scoring.
Sophomore McKInley Hoff stopped all four shots she faced for the shutout as Nazareth held a commanding 64-4 edge in shots.
Nazareth opens United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) play next weekend with a two-game series at Chatham with games at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday in Pittsburgh.
