PINE VALLEY, N.Y. -- Nazareth gained its second straight field hockey victory Wednesday as the Golden Flyers had three different goal-scorers in a 3-0 win at Elmira in Empire 8 Conference action.
Nazareth improved to 5-9 overall and 4-2 in conference games. With two regular-season conference games remaining, the Golden Flyers kept alive their hopes for an E8 playoff berth. They host Hartwick Saturday at 2 p.m. and visit Washington & Jefferson on Oct. 30. In between, the Golden Flyers host Medaille Oct. 27 in a non-conference game. Elmira dropped to 0-11 overall and 0-6 in the E8.
After a scoreless first quarter, Nazareth responded with goals in the second, third and fourth quarters. Junior
Grace Wasileski put Nazareth on the board with her second goal of the season less than four minutes into the second quarter off a pass from
Bailey Selman, who gained her team-leading sixth assist of the season.
In the third quarter, freshman
Bella Rehermann scored her fourth goal of the season and freshman
Maddie Anderson delivered her first career goal in the fourth quarter.
Nazareth benefited from a 24-7 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in penalty corners.
Senior
Amanda Chuttey went the distance in goal and made three saves for her second shutout of the season and fourth of her career.
