Field Hockey Falls to Hartwick on Senior Day

ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Amanda Chuttey made 20 saves and was honored prior to the game with fellow senior Mya Maloof for the Nazareth College Field Hockey team but the Golden Flyers dropped a 4-0 decision to Hartwick in an Empire 8 game.

Hartwick (10-4 overall, 6-1 E8) scored once in each quarter and held a 35-1 advantage in shots as the Hawks dominated the flow of the game.

In the first quarter, Hartwick took a lead with a hard shot from just inside the arc 5:30 into the game.

The Hawks added a second goal with five minutes remaining in the first half as Sydney Gagnon converted a rebound after Chuttey made the ignition save for Nazareth (5-10, 4-3 E8).

In the second half, Gagnon scored her second goal of the game as she flipped a short shot into the corner of the goal after a pair of Hartwick shots were stopped by Chuttey and the defense.

With just two minutes remaining in the game, Chuttey made a diving save on a Hartwick shot but was whistled for a violation by using the back of her stick to make the save and Hartwick was awarded a penalty stroke and Julie Ruzzi converted the shot for the 4-0 lead.

Hartwick had 11 penalty corners in the game and did not allow one to the Golden Flyers.

Nazareth will host Medaille Wednesday in its final home game before ending the regular season at Washington & Jefferson at 11 a.m. Saturday in a game that will determine the final seed in the Empire 8 Tournament.
