Haley Glassman Nets Game-Winner for Women’s Soccer

ELMIRA, NY – Freshman Haley Glassman scored the lone goal of the game in the 76th minutes to lead the Nazareth College Women's Soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Elmira College in an Empire 8 match Saturday.

Nazareth (3-4-3 overall, 2-0-0 E8) dominated the play early in the game with a 15-1 shots advantage in the first half and an equally impressive second half but the Golden Flyers did not hit the back of the net until late in the second half.

After Glassman had been whistled for offsides, Elmira (3-5-2, 0-1-2 E8) sent a long kick into the Nazareth defensive zone. The ball was eventually settled by sophomore Olivia Foley who sent a pass to senior Sydney Moss who was playing in a defensive midfield position.

Moss sent a log pass to the back of the Empire defense and a misplayed header landed on the foot of Glassman for a breakaway  from 30 yards out and she dribbled in to within 10 yards of the goal before sending a shot into the lower right corner of the goal for the 1-0 Nazareth lead.

The Golden Flyers finished with a decisive 37-3 advantage in shots and a 19-2 edge in shots on goal. Nazareth also had six corner kicks and allowed just one.

The Golden Flyers return to action Wednesday and host #7 ranked William Smith at 4 p.m. at Golden Flyer Stadium.
