BETHLEHEM, PA – Junior Emily Weaver ran shaved nearly a full minute off her previous best time at the 6K distance as she finished 30th overall to lead the Nazareth College Women's Cross Country team to a sixth place finish at the 47th Annual Paul Short Run at Lehigh University.
Weaver's time of 23:32.8 is her new career-best time and led the Golden Flyers to sixth place with 224 points. Daemen College was first in the team competition with 121 points followed by Susquehanna (158 points), Kutztown (180), Southern Connecticut State (182), Franklin and Marshall (206) and Nazareth. The Golden Flyers finished ahead of 21 other schools including Scranton, Moravian and Stevens Institute.
The group of five scoring runners for Nazareth finished with times within a minute of each other for a strong team race. Junior Megan Morin was the second Nazareth finisher in 41st place and a time of 23:56.1 and sophomore Lilianna Hanning was right on her heels in 42nd position and a time of 23:57.4. Both times were personal best finishes.
Junior Giselle Rainville was next in 53rd place and a PR time of 24:09.0 and senior Claire Bargabos rounded out the Nazareth scoring as she finished in 69th place and a time of 24:26.5.
Other finishers for Nazareth included freshman Peyton Tripp (24:36.0), senior Elizabeth Decker (24:56.4), freshman Ruth Desanctis (25:25.7) and sophomore Paige Ackley (26:46.3). Tripp, Decker and Desanctis each recorded PR finishes.
In addition, freshman Alaska Dunstan and junior Alexis Anagnostopulos ran in the women's open race and finished with PR times and in 137th and 196th place respectively. Dunstan ran 24:52.4 and Anagnostopulos clocked a 25:49.5 finish.
The Nazareth women will compete next at the Canisius Alumni Classic October 16 at Delaware Park in Buffalo.
