GENEVA, NY – Playing its final road game in a three-game stretch to start the season, the Nazareth College women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-3 decision to William Smith Wednesday afternoon on Boswell Field.
The Golden Flyers (1-2) will play its first home game of the year Saturday as Nazareth hosts Rochester in an 11 a.m. contest.
Against William Smith (2-1), the Herons took advantage of a couple early Nazareth turnovers and raced to a 4-0 lead with three goals coming in the first 10 minutes of action.
Freshman Emma States stopped the early run with the first of her three goals on the day with her 10th goals of the season at the 11:35 mark of the first half.
William Smith added a goal four minutes later but States struck again just 21 seconds after the draw control to trim the Herons lead to 5-2.
With only 12 seconds left in the first half, William Smith added another goal to take a 6-2 lead into the halftime intermission.
William Smith scored the first four goals of the second half to jump out to a 10-2 lead before States added her third goal of the day with an assist by senior Lily Aldrich.
The Herons capped the scoring with three more goals in the closing minutes for the final 13-3 score.

Katie Lawrence played the entire game and made 10 saves for Nazareth.
