Antonio Sargent knocked down a team-best 13 kills and
Jason Proud had 37 assists and six service aces Friday as Nazareth won its first United Volleyball Conference match of the season with a three-set sweep of Sage. Scores were 25-14, 25-23, 25-23.
Nazareth won for the fifth straight time to improve to 8-11 overall and 1-2 conference matches. Sage is 4-13 overall and 0-4 in UVC action.
Joe Crosby added nine kills on 15 swings with just two hitting errors for a .467 hitting percentage.
Sean Dillon added eight kills and
Luis Vazquez had six to go with six digs.
Nazareth had 14 kills in the first set and 16 more in the second to take a commanding lead. In the third set, the score was tied at 22-22 when Nazareth benefited from two Sage serving errors. Crosby then added the match-clinching spike for the 25th point. Nazareth also took the second set in similar fashion with late kills by Crosby and
Nate Allen sealing the set.
Nazareth plays two more matches Saturday, including a 12 p.m. UVC match at fifth-ranked Vassar. The Golden Flyers also play Hunter at 2 p.m. in a non-conference match.
