ITHACA, N.Y. -- Host Ithaca scored the first 10 goals of the game Saturday and cruised to a 23-8 non-conference women's lacrosse victory over Nazareth in the season opener for both teams.

The Bombers, ranked 19th nationally, had large advantages in shots (39-14) and ground balls (21-6) and had one player with five goals and three others with four. The Bombers also converted on 6-of-8 free-position shots. Freshman Emma States led Nazareth with five goals. Addilys Geitner, Tori Blazey and Jordan Knapp each had goals.

Ithaca's Alexa Ritchie scored all five of her goals in the first half as the Bombers built a commanding lead at 12-4. Four of her goals came in the 10-goal flurry that covered the first 20 minutes.

Nazareth finally got untracked in the later third of the first half as States scored twice and Geitner and Blazey followed to trim the lead to 10-4. Ritchie then delivered her fifth goal on a free-position shot and the Bombers scored again in the closing minute of the half to make it 12-4.

Knapp scored for Nazareth early in the second half, but Ithaca answered by scoring three of the next four goals to maintain its comfortable advantage. States added three more goals for Nazareth in the second half to close out a positive debut. Sophomores Katie Lawrence and Emma Prosak each played 30 minutes in goal and combined for 11 saves. Junior Vicki Arena contributed seven draw controls and freshman Maggie Vay had three.

Nazareth is back in action Wednesday for another non-conference game at Buffalo State at 4 p.m.
