ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth College has been selected as host of the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships in 2025.
The Golisano Training Center, which opened in 2019, will be the site of the prestigious championship meet in March of 2025 with the exact dates forthcoming. The Rochester NY Sports Commission will assist in hosting the event.
The NCAA made more than 450 selections of host sites for preliminary rounds and final sites of predetermined championships in Divisions I, II and III, with most to be held from 2022-23 through 2025-26. The NCAA received more than 3,000 bid submissions from NCAA member schools, conferences, sports commissions and cities vying to host predetermined rounds for 86 of the NCAA's 90 championships. The sites were selected by the respective NCAA sports committees and approved by the divisional competition oversight and championships committees.
"This is a great opportunity for us to showcase a great facility that we are very proud of," said Nazareth Athletic Director Pete Bothner. "We feel fortunate to be selected and are excited for this opportunity."
The NCAA sports committees made the selections of host sites based on criteria that included the ability to create an outstanding experience for student-athletes, along with adherence to NCAA sport-specific bid specifications.
Specifications can include, but are not limited to, providing optimal facilities; ease of travel to the location and ample lodging; and adherence to NCAA principles, which include providing an atmosphere that is safe and respects the dignity of all attendees.
The 108,000-square-foot Golisano Training Center was designed for use for the Nazareth athletic program and as a venue for the Special Olympics. In addition to competition and practice facilities, the building also supports educational programs for Nazareth health and human services students in fields such as physical therapy, audiology and speech. Through the partnership, the college provides free health screenings and wellness programs for Special Olympics New York athletes.
After opening in 2019, the Golden Flyers hosted four indoor track and field meets, including the All-Atlantic Regional championships last March. Nazareth also will serve as host for the 2021 NCAA men's volleyball championships after previously hosting the event in 2013.
