ALFRED STATION, NY – Sophomore Zein Mohamed scored a goal and added an assist while fellow sophomore Sam Smyth chipped in a pair of assists to help the Nazareth College men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Alfred State Saturday night at Alfred.
Mohamed helped open the scoring as he dribbled past a pair of defenders then sent a perfect crossing pass to the foot of sophomore Adoniadis Savidis who redirected the ball into the back of the goal for the early 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.
Less than six minutes later, freshman Dan Serpe took a pass from Smyth and scored to put the Golden Flyers (4-0) up by a 2-0 score.
Shortly after the Nazareth goal, Alfred State (0-3) had a chance to cut the lead in half after being awarded a penalty kick but senior goalie Brian Wilkin made the save on the shot as he anticipated a shot to the right side of the goal and moved over to make the stop.
The score remained 2-0 until early in the second half when Mohamed capped his day with his second goal of the season. Smyth picked up his second assist of the game on the play.
Wilkin finished with two saves in the contest as he improved to 4-0 with his third shutout of the season.
The Golden Flyers return to action Tuesday at Fredonia and return home next Saturday against Ithaca.
