ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Six different players scored goals for host Nazareth Saturday as the Golden Flyers overwhelmed Elmira in an Empire 8 women's soccer match, 6-0, at Golden Flyer Stadium.

The Golden Flyers had scored just 10 goals in their first seven games before erupting Saturday for two goals in the first half and four more in the second. Nazareth improved to 5-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in Empire 8 Conference action. Elmira dropped to 2-6-0 and 0-2-0.

Nazareth had decisive advantages in shots (43-3) and corner kicks (10-0) and had several scoring chances early. The Golden Flyers finally broke through in the 22nd minute as freshman Megan McCraith headed in a corner kick that originated from the foot of Caleigh Cahoon. The second goal came in the 33rd minute after Mia Strollo gained an advantage along the end line and crossed a pass to freshman Sarah Merriwether, who netted her first career goal.

The second half opened with the Golden Flyers scoring three times before four minutes had elapsed. Cahoon scored her second goal of the season with an assist from Strollo just 46 seconds into the half. Freshman Ashlyn Slate then scored her first career goal just 63 seconds later for a 4-0 Nazareth lead. Amanda Rice converted a pass from Mallory Ott at 48:45.

Freshman McKayla Hughes closed out the scoring with an unassisted tally in the 73rd minute.

Elmira had a couple of opportunities in the second half, but backup keeper Gabrielle Pighetti made two saves in relief of starter Hannah Miller, who combined for the shutout. Ally Knorr-Anderson made 20 saves for Elmira.

The victory was the 13th straight for Nazareth over Elmira in women's soccer and the fourth straight by shutout. Overall, Nazareth has won 34 of 39 meetings.

The Golden Flyers are home again Tuesday for a non-conference meeting with RIT at 4 p.m.
