ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting RIT scored both of its goals in the first eight minutes of the second half Tuesday and limited Nazareth's scoring chances to a precious few as the Tigers gained a 2-0 women's soccer victory over the Golden Flyers in a non-conference match.
The Tigers had the better of the play most of the way in generating superior advantages in shots (30-6) and corner kicks (7-1) and improved to 6-3 overall. Nazareth dropped to 5-3-1.
RIT had nine shots in the first half, but Nazareth keeper
Hannah Miller made four routine saves to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard. Nazareth managed just one shot and that came late in the first half off the foot of
Mallory Ott.
Nazareth had a couple of chances in the opening minute of the second half as Ott and
Ashley Plane each were credited with shots, but RIT keeper Darcie Jones was able to make the saves.
The Tigers finally broke through in the 51st minute as Christine Cataldo-Smith settled a through pass from Mia White and sent a shot past Miller for the game's first score. Less than three minutes later. White scored by deflecting a pass from Abbey Saia past Miller.
RIT was able to keep up the pressure and limited Nazareth's chances. Miller finished with 11 saves, just one less than her season high against St. Lawrence. Jones made four saves for the Tigers to gain the shutout.
Nazareth resumes its Empire 8 Conference schedule Saturday with a game at Houghton at 1 p.m.
