ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth scored all three of its goals in the first half Saturday as the Golden Flyers gained their third straight men's soccer victory with a 3-0 triumph over Hartwick.
The game was not classified as an Empire 8 contest since Hartwick is still transitioning from Division I to Division III. Nazareth, though, is unbeaten in its last four games (3-0-1) and is now 7-2-1 overall. Hartwick dropped to 2-6.
Nazareth's first tally was recorded as an own goal as a blast by
Dereck France deflected into the net off a Hartwick player's foot in the 17th minute. Junior
Dan Serpe scored the next two, including a penalty kick in the 24th minute, marking Nazareth third penalty kick goal of the season.
Serpe struck again less than three minutes later as he chipped a shot over the head of Hartwick keeper Britt Reisman after he settled a pass from France. It was Serpe's second two-goal game of the season.
Nazareth was able to generate a 19-3 advantage in shots with Serpe accounting for six of those. Nazareth also had eight corner kicks.
Brian Wilkin didn't need to record a save in picking up the shutout win, his second of the season and 18th of his career.
Nazareth is on the road again Tuesday for a non-conference match at SUNY Delhi at 7 p.m. The Golden Flyers resume their Empire 8 Conference schedule with a home game Saturday against Sage at 1 p.m.
