ROCHESTER, NY – The University of Rochester field hockey team opened up an early lead with five goals in the first half and held on with stingy defense to post a 5-0 victory Tuesday afternoon in Fauver Stadium in Rochester.
The Yellow Jackets (4-4), who are listed in the also receiving votes section of the latest national poll, scored twice in the first half with goals off a penalty corner and a second goal on a penalty stoke to take the early lead.
Nazareth (4-4) surrendered three goals in the second quarter as Rochester opened up a five-goal advantage.
The Golden Flyers tightened up the defensive effort in the second half as Rochester continued to apply relentless pressure. Sophomore Amanda Chuttey finished with nine saves as Rochester held a 28-0 shots advantage and a 16-0 shots on goal edge.
Nazareth returns to Empire 8 play Sunday at Washington and Jefferson with an 11 am game.
