ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Junior Jake Adams scored three goals, including a pair that came just 19 seconds apart early in the second half, Tuesday as host Nazareth defeated Medaille in a non-conference men's soccer match, 4-1, on the Golden Flyers' artificial turf field.

The Golden Flyers are 2-0-1 in their last three games and 6-2-1 overall. Medaille dropped to 3-4-1 overall. It was just the third meeting ever between the two schools in men's soccer and the first since 2007.

Although the Golden Flyers controlled the action most of the way, they were unable to find the back of the net until early in the second half. Nazareth generated a 15-2 shooting advantage in the first half, including a bid by Dan Serpe that caromed off the left goal post and a blast by Dereck France that skipped off the crossbar.

It didn't take long for the Golden Flyers' luck to change in the second half as Adams was able to get a foot on a cross from France just 21 seconds into the second half for the first goal of the game. It took just 19 seconds for Adams to strike again. This time he broke loose along the right wing and blasted a shot inside the far post and past Medaille keeper Jonny Pitts for a 2-0 Nazareth advantage.

The Mavericks got on the board about 11 minutes later -- in the 57th minute -- on a goal by Jack Napier, but Nazareth answered in the 69th minute when Zein Mohamed scored for the third time this season by heading in a free kick from the foot of Sam Smyth.

Adams' third goal of the game -- and team-leading seventh of the season -- came in the 86th minute as he beat Pitts to a loose ball and was credited with an unassisted tally.

Nazareth ultimately finished with a 24-11 advantage in shots. Medaille had five corner kicks to Nazareth's four. Brian Wilkin had six saves for the Golden Flyers, including one in the first half on a semi-breakaway by Napier to keep the game scoreless.

For Adams, the reigning Empire 8 Player of the Week, the three goals is a collegiate best and gives him five goals in the last three games. The Golden Flyers are on the road Saturday against Hartwick for a 2 p.m. game.
