ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore Amanda Chuttey made 14 saves and senior Jennifer Hilts scored the lone goal for the Nazareth College field hockey team as the Golden Flyers dropped a 3-1 decision to Geneseo Wednesday night in a non-conference game on the artificial turf field.
After a scoreless first quarter, Geneseo (5-2) opened the scoring midway through the second quarter and then took a 2-0 lead near the end of the third quarter.
Nazareth (3-3) answered back early in the fourth quarter as Hilts took a pass from freshman Caroline Desautels who had worked the ball up the field quickly in transition after a turnover in the midfield area. Hilts sent a low shot past the Geneseo goalie to cut the lead in half 50 seconds into the final period.
With less than seven minutes to play, Geneseo regained the two-goal advantage with a goal from in close after a penalty corner.
The Knights held a 28-7 edge in shots and was awarded 10 penalty corners as Nazareth had five.
The Golden Flyers return to action and start Empire 8 conference play Saturday with a 2 pm game at home against Sage.
