ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Kellie Byrne and freshmen Lauren Caldwell and Emma Robinson scored four goals each and junior Lily Aldrich added two goals and five assists as the Nazareth College women's lacrosse team notched its seventh win of the season with a 20-3 victory over Houghton College in an Empire 8 contest Wednesday night.
Sophomore Callahan Lyon scored off a centering pass from Aldrich 24 seconds into the game to start the scoring for Nazareth (7-7 overall, 4-2 E8). Houghton (4-9, 2-4) answered two minutes later on a quick transition to knot the score at 1-1.
It was all Nazareth from that point as Aldrich, Byrne and Caldwell scored goals in a two-minute span to open up a 4-1 lead. Robinson added three more goals while freshman Phoebe Barnett and Caldwell scored two goals and sophomores Regan McGwin and Jordan Knapp added one goal each as Nazareth added to its lead with the nine-goal run to end the first half with a 13-1 advantage.
Byrne scored three times and Robinson once to start the second half before the Highlanders scored a pair of goals to stop the run. In total, the Golden Flyers scored 16 straight goals after the 1-1 tie ealy in the contest.
After the two Houghton goals made it a 17-3 lead, Aldrich, Caldwell and freshman Hannah Dlugosz each scored goals for the final 20-3 score. The 20 goals was a season best as the Golden Flyers had 18 goals earlier in the year against Elmira.
All three Nazareth goalies saw action as the trio combined for four saves.
The Golden Flyers will play at Sage Saturday and at RIT Tuesday before returning home to wrap up the regular season against Alfred April 27.
