ALBANY, N.Y. -- Freshman
Emma Robinson scored five goals and sophomore
Regan McGwin tallied a career-best five points on four goals and one assist Saturday as visiting Nazareth defeated Sage in decisive fashion, 22-2, in an Empire 8 women's lacrosse match.
The victory boosted Nazareth's overall record to 8-7 and its Empire 8 mark to 5-2. The Gators dropped to 2-11 overall and 1-5 in conference games.
Robinson's five goals boosted her season total to a team-best 40. Senior
Kellie Byrne and junior
Addilys Geitner also scored twice each. In addition, freshman
Madison Fox and sophomore
Jade Hendricks each netted their first career goals. Junior defender
Dylann Hogan scored her first goal of the season.
Nazareth's first two goals came in a 20-second span with
Jordan Knapp scoring unassisted and Byrne converting a pass from
Lily Aldrich, whose 32 assists are the most for a Nazareth player in a single season since 2002. Robinson's first goal of the game -- off another assist from Aldrich -- extended the lead to 3-0 before Sage scored.
Nazareth then scored the next 10 goals to turn the game into a rout. McGwin scored three times during that flurry, while Geitner and Robinson each scored twice.
The score was 13-2 at the half, then Nazareth scored nine more times in the second half with Robinson scoring twice and
Rachel Wilson contributing one goal and two assists.
Nazareth had a 44-11 advantage in shots and a 35-20 edge in ground balls.
Vicki Arena had seven draw controls and Aldrich scooped up six ground balls.
Brianna Rizzari started in goal and had seven saves in the first half.
Emma Prosak and Fox played the second half.
Nazareth has two more regular-season games remaining -- a non-conference game at RIT Tuesday and a home game against Alfred Saturday at 4.
