Stevens Rallies Late for Win in Women’s Lacrosse

HOBOKEN, NJ – Freshman Emma Robinson, senior Addilys Geitner and freshman Lauren Caldwell scored consecutive man-up goals in the second half for the Nazareth College women's lacrosse team to knot the score at 8-8 but Stevens Institute rallied to score three time in the closing minutes to post an 11-8 win Saturday in an Empire 8 matchup at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.

Nazareth (6-7 overall, 3-2 E8) scored to start the game as senior Kellie Byrne scored the first of her three goals on the day less than a minute into the contest for the early lead. Stevens (6-7, 4-1 E8) answered with five of the next six goals to take a 5-2 lead.

Byrne scored in the middle of the run and Robinson netted the first of her two goals to stop the rally with 8:14 left in the opening half.

The teams traded goals near the end of the first half with junior Emily Allen scoring for the Golden Flyers and Stevens took a 6-4 lead into the intermission.

Byrne opened the second half with her third goal and the first of four man-advantage goals for Nazareth.

The Ducks scored twice in the span of a minute to regain the three-goal lead at 8-5 before Robinson, Geitner and Caldwell scored their consecutive man-up goals to tie the score with just less than 20 minutes remaining.

Stevens regained the lead at the 18:07 mark and added goals at 16:48 and 3:03 to cap the scoring.

Geitner added a pair of assists for three points on the day and junior Lily Aldrich added two assists for the Golden Flyers.

Nazareth returns to action Wednesday with a home Empire 8 game against Houghton College and will play at Sage next weekend.
