ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Rochester scored the game's first three goals and never trailed in building a halftime lead and the Yellowjackets went on to take a 10-5 women's lacrosse victory over Nazareth in non-conference action Wednesday at Fauver Stadium.
Maggie McKenna scored four goals and Jamison Seabury added three as the Yellowjackets improved to 5-6 overall.
Kellie Byrne scored twice for Nazareth, which dropped to 6-6 overall.
In a methodically played game, Nazareth managed just 19 shots against a stingy Yellowjackets' defense. The Golden Flyers went 0-for-4 on free-position shots and the team's scoring leader, freshman
Emma Robinson, was held witout a goal for the first time this season.
Mary Panepento and McKenna each scored twice for Rochester in the first half as the Yellowjackets led 5-1. They scored the first three goals of the game before Nazareth broke through on an unassisted score by
Lily Aldrich. UR had a 14-8 advantage in shots over the first 30 minutes.
UR scored the first goal of the second half and Byrne countered for Nazareth about a minute later off a pass from
Callahan Lyon. The Yellowjackets then reeled off the next three goals to build a 9-2 advantage.
Nazareth continued to play hard and made a gallant effort to get back into the game as goals by
Addilys Geitner and Byrne drew the Golden Flyers to within 9-4.
Seabury's third goal of the game, off a free-position shot, helped seal the UR win with 6:34 to go. Freshman
Emma Parry added a late tally for the Golden Flyers.
Brianna Rizzari started in goal and had three saves before being replaced in the second half by freshman
Madison Fox, who had two saves.
Vicki Arena played well defensively with three ground balls, four draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Nazareth resumes its Empire 8 Conference schedule Saturday with a game at Stevens at 1 p.m.
