BROCKPORT, NY – Freshman Emma Robinson and senior Kellie Byrne each scored near the end of the first half to pull the Nazareth College women's lacrosse team to within 6-5 against SUNY Brockport but the Golden Eagles rallied to outscore Nazareth 7-2 in the second half to secure a 13-7 victory Saturday afternoon on Bob Boozer Field.
Brockport (2-0) started quick with a pair of goals in the first 1:19 of the game before junior Addilys Geitner put the Golden Flyers (1-2) on the board with 25:24 left in the opening half. The goal for Geitner was the first of four on the day.
Brockport answered less than a minute later before Geitner scored twice in a span of just two minutes to knot the score at 3-3.
The Golden Eagles scored the next three goals to take a 6-3 edge before Robinson and Byrne scored to close the half.
In the second half as the snow started to fall to limit visibility, Brockport scored six of the first seven goals as Geitner tallied her fourth of the day in the middle of the Brockport scoring run.
Sophomore Regan McGwin scored her third goal of the year with 10:21 left and a Brockport goal with five minutes left capped the scoring.
Senior Brianna Rizzari finished with 18 saves as she made nine in each half for the Golden Flyers.
Nazareth will face the University of Rochester on the road Wednesday before hosting Williams Smith Saturday.
