RYE, NY – The Nazareth College women's hockey team was held off the scoreboard until midway through the third period as Manhattanville rebounded from a 3-1 loss Friday to post a 5-1 victory over the Golden Flyers Saturday afternoon in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game at the Playland Ice Casino.
Nazareth (18-4-1 overall, 12-4-0 UCHC) scored its only goal of the game with only one second remaining on a power play opportunity. The power play goal came at the 12:46 mark of the third period as Jessica Kollberg scored with assists from Gabriella DeMeo and Taylor Hudon.
Manhattanville (14-7-2, 10-5-1) scored twice in the first period including an early goal 3:08 into the contest. The Valiants took a 2-0 lead with the second goal of the period at 10:20.
A nearly scoreless second period was snapped with 4:53 left in the stanza as Manhattanville added a power play goal to take a 3-0 lead. The Valiants were limited to just four shots in the period.
A second power play goal early in the third made it a 4-0 lead and less than two minutes later, the Valiants added a shorthanded effort to extend the lead to 5-0.
Adrianna Brehm made 28 saves including 15 in the first period for Nazareth.
The Golden Flyers will wrap up the regular season with a home game Saturday against William Smith with the second game of the series in Geneva Sunday afternoon.
