ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Freshman
Emma Robinson scored a career-best four goals and
Kellie Byrne,
Lauren Caldwell and
Regan McGwin each scored twice for host Nazareth Thursday as the Golden Flyers defeated Buffalo State in a non-conference women's lacrosse game, 14-5, a frigid artificial turf field.
The victory evened Nazareth's record at 1-1. Buffalo State is 0-1.
Robinson scored three times and Byrne scored twice as the Golden Flyers built a 5-0 advantage in the first 10-plus minutes. Byrne's first goal came just 37 seconds into the game, then Robinson scored the next two with the second coming on a free-position shot. The next two goals came just 13 seconds apart -- one by Byrne and one by Robinson.
After Buffalo State scored to get on the board, Nazareth scored the next three with McGwin,
Lily Aldrich and
Callahan Lyon each scoring for the first time this season. Robinson scored again before the first half expired as the Golden Flyers held a commanding 9-2 advantage at the break.
Caldwell added both of her goals in the in the second half off free-position shots.
Emily Allen added a free-position goal and McGwin scored off an assist from Aldrich. Freshman
Phoebe Barnett closed out the scoring with a goal with :52 left.
Nazareth dominated statistically with advantages in shots (39-16) and ground balls (33-20). Nazareth also captured 13 of 21 draws with
Vicki Arena accounting for eight of those.
Senior
Brianna Rizzari played the first 45 minutes in goal and made six saves. Freshman
Madison Fox played the final 15.
Jackie Dufresne had two goals for the Bengals and Kendall Skuse had a goal and two assists. Goalie Janae Nelson had 17 saves.
Nazareth is on the road Saturday for a non-conference game at Brockport at 11 a.m.
