ROCHESTER, NY – Four different players scored goals and senior Brianna Rizzari made 15 saves but the Nazareth College women's lacrosse team fell to nationally ranked Ithaca College 13-4 Saturday afternoon on the Nazareth Artificial Turf in the season opener for the Golden Flyers.
Junior Addilys Geitner scored the first goal of the game to give Nazareth (0-1) the early lead just 2:07 into the contest.
Ithaca (1-0), ranked #19 in the IWLCA preseason poll, answered with three goals over the next 10 minutes before senior Kellie Byrne stopped the run with her first goal of the season to trim the lead to 3-2 with 11:32 left in the first half.
The Bombers rattled off six straight goals before the end of the opening period to take a 9-2 lead into the halftime intermission.
Two more goals at the start of the second half made it 11-2 before freshman Emma Robinson scored her first career goal for Nazareth.
Ithaca added two more goals to take a 10-goal lead at 13-3 before junior Emily Allen scored to keep the goal differential under 10.
The Bombers had scoring chances in the final 15 minutes of action but Rizzari made several saves and finished with a total of 15 saves on the day.
Rizzari led the team with six groundballs while sophomore Vicki Arena had three draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers. Junior Dylann Hogan led the team with three caused turnovers.
The Golden Flyers return to action Wednesday with another non-conference game as Buffalo State travels to Nazareth for a 4 p.m. game.
