PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Senior
Zachary Gillard totaled 13 kills against Johnson & Wales Saturday to go over the 1,000-kill mark for his career, but the Golden Flyers dropped a four-set match to the home team by scores of 25-18, 16-25, 25-15, 25-21. Earlier in the day, Nazareth lost in three sets to 10th-ranked Endicott by scores of 25-19, 25-19, 25-13.
The Golden Flyers, combined with Friday's win over Emmanuel, are 8-5 overall.
Needing six kills to reach 1,000, Gillard had four against Endicott and then 13 against Johnson & Wales to go with 10 digs. He became the sixth men's volleyball player to reach 1,000 kills for his career.
Against Johnson & Wales,
Antonio Sargent had eight kills,
Ethan Ross and
Sean Dillon seven apiece and
Joe Crosby added six.
Tyler Farnung had 28 assists, two service aces and six digs.
Luis Vazquez had 15 digs.
In the Endicott match, Ross had five kills, Crosby, Gillard and Sargent four each. Farnung had 16 assists.
The Golden Flyers resume their United Volleyball Conference schedule Wednesday with a match at St. John Fisher at 7 p.m. Nazareth also is home to host Stevens and NYU Saturday and Sunday respectively.
