Men's volleyball sweeps Emmanuel

Box | Updated stats
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Nazareth used a balanced offensive attack to dominate Emmanuel in a three-set men's volleyball match Friday at a tournament hosted by Johnson & Wales. Nazareth cruised by scores of 25-15, 25-20, 25-12.

The Golden Flyers stand at 8-3 with a pair of matches Saturday -- against Endicott at 12 p.m. and Johnson & Wales at 2.

Friday's match was over in 56 minutes as Nazareth got nine kills from sophomore Antonio Sargent and eight from freshman Jordan Hildreth. Senior Zachary Gillard combined seven kills with seven digs and senior Tyler Farnung added 28 assists and six blocks.

Nazareth never trailed insets one and three in winning easily. In the second set, Emmanuel scored the first point and Nazareth rattled off the next six to seize control. Sargent had three of his kills during that stretch and finished with six in that set.

Gillard's seven kills boosted his season total to a team-best of 103 and left him six shy of 1,000 for his career. He will be bidding Saturday to become the sixth Nazareth player to reach that milestone.
