Volleyball Battles to a 3-1 Loss in E8 Championship Match

ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Melissa Newcomb had two kills and junior McKenzie Hart added a third kill as the Nazareth College women's volleyball team scored the final three points to win a 27-25 second set and even the match score at 1-1 but St. John Fisher bounced back to win the final two sets to capture its first Empire 8 Championship Saturday afternoon in the Manning and Napier Gymnasium at St. John Fisher.

The Cardinals (23-10) won the first set 25-13 before Nazareth (13-18) bounced back for the thrilling 27-25 win in the second set. St. John Fisher closed out the match with set wins of 25-17 and 25-15 in the final two sets.

Senior Danielle Synowski and freshman Kaylee Kelly led the offense with 13 and 12 kills respectively. Each player recorded double-doubles as Synowski added 15 digs and Kelly chipped in 11. Kelly led the Golden Flyers with five kills in the second set while Synowski and Newcomb had four each.

Hart led the Nazareth defense with 20 digs in the match and junior Jessica Barry recorded 37 assists.
