ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nikolle Van Stralen netted the game-winning goal with 5:08 lft in the third period Saturday to lift host Nazareth to a 2-1 women's hockey victory over Castleton in non-conference action at the Bill Gray's Iceplex.

The Golden Flyers, also receiving votes in the latest national rankings conducted by uscho.com, won for the fifth straight time to improve to 9-1 overall. Castleton dropped to 5-4 overall. The Golden Flyers play their final game of the semester Sunday at Amherst at 1 p.m.

Despite a whopping 50-12 advantage in shots on goal, Nazareth had difficulty getting shots past Castleton netminder Alexis Kalm, who finished with 48 saves. Nazareth outshot Castleton 16-1 in the first period, including three shots on one power play opportunity, but the game remained scoreless.

Nazareth finally broke through at 9:08 of the second period as Jessica Kollberg scored her first goal of the season on a shot from the point with Hailey Redders and Celena Rea generating assists. The lead, however, lasted all of 29 seconds as the Spartans tied the score at 9:37 as Miranda Wheeler scored with assists from Kaitlin Bardelli and Darby Palisi.

Nazareth still had the advantage in third-period shots, but Castleton had a great chance to take the lead when Redders and Mikaila Rubin were whistled for minor penalties just 28 seconds apart to create a 5-on-3 power play for the Spartans. Castleton was able to generate three of its 12 shots, but Nazareth goalie Adrianna Brehm stopped all three.

The game-winning goal came after Cristina Darby was able to dig the puck free from behind the goal and centered it for Van Stralen, who buried the shot for her fifth goal of the season.

Brehm finished the game with 11 saves and both teams went 0-for-4 on the power play.
