PITTSTON, Pa. -- Eight different players had goals Saturday in women's hockey as the Golden Flyers completed a weekend sweep of United Collegiate Hockey Conference games with a 10-0 win over King's.
Coupled with Friday's 7-0 win at Wilkes, the Golden Flyers were able to improve to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in UCHC games. King's is 0-4 both in league and overall.
Nazareth delivered another dominating performance and have now outscored the opposition 44-5 through seven games. Sophomores
Madison Nichols and
Nikolle Van Stralen were the only multiple goal scorer as the each produced two goals. Van Stralen also had a pair of assists.
Mikaila Rubin had one goal and two assists and
Hailey Redders and
Keeley Rose each had one goal and one assist.
Morgan Leuenberger,
Gabriella DeMeo and
Celena Rea also scored.
The Golden Flyers scored four times in the first period with Rose netting the first goal off an assist from
Olivia Miller-Johnson at 7:24. Goals by Van Stralen, Nichols and Leuenberger followed as Nazareth built a commanding advantage.
Rubin's first goal of the season highlighted the second period for the Golden Flyers, who extended the lead to 5-0.
Redders scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the third period for Nazareth's lone power play goal of the game. Van Stralen scored in the opening minute of the period and Redders' goal came about two minutes later. Van Stralen later added an assist on DeMeo's first goal of the season. Nichols' second goal came at 13:14 and Rea scored from Redders at 17:18.
Nazareth enjoyed a whopping 62-7 advantage in shots on goal.
Noelle Giroux posted her third straight shutout victory with seven saves. She has yet to yield a goal in three starts this season.
Nazareth is back home this weekend to resume their UCHC schedule against Elmira Friday at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday against William Smith at 1.
