HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Nazareth's men's and women's cross country teams posted several personal-best times Saturday as the Golden Flyers ran well at Houghton's Highlander Invitational.
In the women's race, six of Nazareth's top seven runners recorded top times as the Golden Flyers placed third with 79 team points, behind only Geneseo (25) and St. John Fisher (72) in the 10-team field.
In the men's race, Nazareth also had six personal-best times to finish in fourth place with 100 team points. Geneseo was first with 20 points, followed by St. John Fisher (80), RIT (93) and Nazareth.
Junior
Deirdre Brett paced the women's team by finishing in 15th place as she covered the 6-kilometer course in 24:21.8, just a few ticks off her personal best. She was followed to the finish line by sophomores
Erin Reyner and
Claire Bargabos in 17th and 19th place respectively with personal bests of 24:43.1 and 24:55.9. Junior
Kelly Artini was next in 25th place (25:09.3), followed by freshmen
Megan Morin (26th, 25:11.0),
Emily Weaver (37th, 25:46.0) and
Alexis Anagnostopulos (39th, 25:50.5).Â
Also competing for Nazareth were juniors
Kaitlyn Dobbertin (45th, 26:05.1) and
Hannah Hullihen (47th, 26:27.5).
In the men's race, Nazareth's top three finishers -- freshmen Nate McNally and Nate Bowers and sophomore Josh Tomaka -- each had personal-best 8-kilometer times. McNally finished 15th in 26:29.7; Bowers was 17th in 26:37.7; and Tomaka was 21st in 26:49.1. Junior Christopher Celecki placed 27th in 26:59.5 and junior Michael Brown was 37th in 27:33.5. Also competing for Nazareth were sophomore Jake Suddaby (38th, 27:34.1) and freshman Lucas Sharron (46th, 28:01.5).
