WILLIAMSPORT, PA – After a sluggish start, the Nazareth College women's volleyball team rallied to win the second set but eventually fell by a 3-1 score to Lycoming College Friday afternoon in the first game of the Lycoming Tournament in Lamade Gymnasium.
Lycoming (12-8) won the opening set 25-16 before Nazareth (8-7) came back to even the match with a 25-20 win in the second set. The Warriors responded with a late run to win a 25-23 third set and then finished the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth.
Senior Danielle Synowski led the Nazareth offense with 16 kills including 11 in the first two sets while fellow senior Melissa Newcomb added 12 kills. Synowski was also a factor on defense with nine digs. Sophomore McKenzie Hart led the defense with 12 digs and junior Jessica Barry had 10 digs and led the Golden Flyers with 36 assists. Freshman Kelsey Ludwig had four aces.
Nazareth will play a pair of early matches Saturday in the tournament facing Marywood at 10 am and then finishing with a noon match against RIT.
