ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Freshman Sam Smyth scored all three goals for the Golden Flyers Saturday evening as host Nazareth topped D'Youville, 3-1, in a non-conference men's soccer match on the artificial turf field. Nazareth is 3-1 following its third straight win. D'Youville is 0-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Smyth, a freshman from Pittsford, scored his first three goals as a Golden Flyer to jump start the Nazareth offense. Freshman Zein Mohamed assisted on the first goal, sophomore Adrian Padilla on the second and sophomore Jake Adams and junior Francesco Viavattene teamed up to set up the third goal
  • Smyth's first goal came off a pass from Mohamed. His shot from inside the 18 caromed off the right goal post and trickled into the goal just over four minutes in.
  • The second goal in the 17th minute came off a pass up the right wing from Padilla. Smyth raced up the wing and blasted a shot past D'Youville keeper Kyle Dick.
  • D'Youville closed the gap early in the second half as Brian Nwaekeke headed in a crossing pass from Josh Hammer.
  • In the 68th minute, Smyth converted again. Viavattene sent a long pass up the right wing to Adams, who crossed it to Smyth for the finish. See video.
