ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Fredonia scored a pair of second-half goals Tuesday to break open a scoreless game and went on to take a 2-0 men's soccer victory oer the Golden Flyers in non-conference action at Golden Flyer Stadium.
Nazareth had a three-game winning streak snapped in dropping to 3-2 overall, while Fredonia improved to 2-2-1.
Nazareth had a slight edge in shots, 16-13, but the game remained scoreless until the 54th minute when Fredonia's Chad Gibson slipped a shot past Nazareth keeper
Brian Wilkin to break the tie.
The Blue Devils sealed the win in the 87th minute as Matt Belardi broke free in teh box and had an initial shot knocked aside by Wilkin. Ibrahim Doumbia was there, however, to collect the rebound and added the insurance goal.
Of Nazareth's 16 shots, only three were on goal -- one each by
Jake Adams,
Sam Smyth and
Connor Mann. Fredonia's Ty Bentham went the distance in goal for the Blue Devils to gain the shutout. Wilkin finished with four saves for Nazareth.
The Golden Flyers are on the road Saturday to open their Empire 8 Conference schedule at Sage at 3 p.m.
