ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth scored the game's only goal in the 19th minute Thursday and held on for a 1-0 non-conference women's soccer victory over Geneseo at Golden Flyer Stadium. Both teams are 2-1 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Geneseo, ranked 14th nationally in the pre-season by the United Soccer Coaches, yielded its first goal of the early season as Nazareth sophomore Caleigh Cahoon headed home a corner kick off the foot of freshman Mia Longo. It was Nazareth's first shot of the game.
  • Junior Hannah Miller, backed by solid defensive play from juniors Noelle Colilli, Erika Lepik and Mia Strollo, plus sophomore Lauren Begy, made nine saves to record her first shutout of the season.

  • Geneseo had the better of the possession time and had a 14-4 advantage in shots, but many of Miller's saves were routine.

WHAT SHE SAID
  • "It's a great win over a great team and a nice confidence booster," said Nazareth Coach Gail Mann. "I'm pleased in that our players followed the game plan by not chasing the ball around and limiting their offensive chances. We can't really enjoy it for too long, though, because we have another tough game on Saturday."
