ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Despite being outshot 21-10, visiting Utica got the better of Nazareth Saturday in an Empire 8 men's soccer match at Golden Flyer Stadium. The Pioneers scored a pair of timely goals and held off Nazareth in the second half to take a 2-1 victory.
It was the first conference win of the season for the Pioneers, who improved to 4-5-1 overall and 1-2 in the E8. Nazareth dropped to 6-3-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play. The loss snapped a four-game unbeaten streak for the Golden Flyers, who also had a scoreless string of more than 400 minutes snapped.
Nazareth at a 14-5 first-half advantage in shots, but it was Utica that reached the scoreboard as Tucker Marvin scored his first goal of the season off a free kick in the 14th minute. The score went unchanged until the 73rd minute when the Pioneers struck again with Patrick Hynes converting a pass from Thomas Muller for a 2-0 lead.

Jake Adams scored for Nazareth in the 80th minute off a nice feed from Francisco Viavattene and the Golden Flyers amped up the pressure in a quest to get the equalizing goal, but they were not ab;e to convert again.Utiva goalie
Randy Miksch was partly responsible for that by making nine saves.
Nazareth is off until next Saturday when the Golden Flyers host St. John Fisher in another E8 Conference game at 3 p.m.
