NORTH CHILI, N.Y. -- Nazareth's men's and women's cross country teams were in action Saturday at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational at Roberts Wesleyan.
Nazareth's women's team finished in ninth place among 18 teams with 245 points. Roberts Wesleyan finished first with 40 points, followed by Geneseo (87) and Mercyhurst (115).
Nazareth's men's team came in 10th place among 21 teams with 264 points. Roberts (40 points) edged Geneseo (41) for the team trophy. Cortland (104) was third, then St. Bonaventure (135).
Freshman
Hayley Cronin was Nazareth's top female finisher in 20th place with a 5-kilometer time of 19:20.1. Junior
Maria Staehr was next in 46th place in 20:08.3 and sophomore
Deirdre Brett finished 52nd in 20:13.0.
Other competitors for Nazareth were senior
Eileen Shea in 78th place (20:41.5), sophomore
Lauren Guilfoil in 88th place (20:48.3); sophomore
Kaitlyn Dobbertin in 132nd place (21:56.2); freshman
Claire Kubinski in 152nd place (22:23.2); junior
Megan Menz in 165th place (22:43.4) and sophomore
Clare Brownell in 192nd place (24:04.7).
The men's race was an 8-kilometer event with sophomore Chris Celecki setting the pace for the Golden Flyers in 52nd place with a time of 27:46.6. Senior Andrew Gwynn and freshman Josh Tomaka finished in 60th and 67th place respectively with times of 29:02.7 and 28:09.5. Sophomore Michael Brown was next in 77th place (28:23.3), the senior Jack Wessel in 84th place (28:30.4).
Others who competed were freshmen Jake Suddaby (98th, 29:01.1), Josh Pomerleau (102nd, 29:05.6) and Patrick Healy (150th, 31:26.0) and sophomore Devyn Chase (164th, 32:33.8).
