ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth won a pair of matches on the second day of the Golden Flyer Invitational. Nazareth defeated Fredonia in four sets (25-16, 9-25, 25-16, 25-20) before sweeping Keuka in three sets (25-13, 25-17, 25-23). Mt. Union and Baldwin Wallace were named co-champions of the Invitational. Junior

Savannah Bothner were named to the all-tounament team for Nazareth.
With the victories, the Golden Flyers improve to 10-2 overall. Fredonia falls to 7-3 following the loss, while Keuka drops to 5-10 overall.
In its match against Fredonia, Nazareth was led by senior
Madison Joseph and junior
Melissa Newcomb, who tallied 10 kills apiece. In addition to the kills from Joseph and Newcomb, senior
Kelsey Milligan had nine kills and classmate
Carmen Sapp contributed seven kills. Sophomore
Jessica Barry finished with 31 assists as Nazareth's primary setter.
On the defensive side of the net, sophomore
Savannah Bothner amassed a match-high 23 digs. Junior
Delaney Martin and senior
Celia Cordero added 12 digs and 10 digs, respectively. Newcomb was a force at the net with four solo blocks, and Milligan had three solo blocks and one assisted block.
In the first, third, and fourth sets, the Golden Flyers had hitting percentages of .381, .385, and .222 while holding Fredonia to percentages of .098, .057, and -.027. Nazareth forced the Blue Devils into 23 hitting errors, including 17 between the second and third sets to take control of the match.
In their match against Keuka, the Golden Flyers received nine kills from Martin and eight kills from Newcomb. Nazareth showed its depth with 10 players tallying at least one kill. Barry finished with a match-high 18 assists, while Cordero recorded eight assists and freshman
Olivia Quick added five assists.
Defensively, the Golden Flyers forced the Wolves into 16 hitting errors while allowing only nine kills during the opening two sets. Bothner thwarted several of Keuka's attempts as she had a match-high 14 digs. Sophomore
Julia Cavanaugh frustrated the Wolves with a solo block and three assisted blocks. Senior
Margorie Didas added four assisted blocks.
Nazareth resumes action on September 22nd when the Golden Flyers travel to Alfred to open Empire 8 play with a match against the Saxons at 11:00 and Stevens at 1:30.
