Emily Prescott's determined effort on the left post led to Nazareth's goal.
Following the loss, the Golden Flyers fall to 1-1 overall on the season. Rochester begins the season with a 1-0 record with the victory.
Prescott scored Nazareth's goal 22 minutes into the second half. Following a penalty corner, the Golden Flyers worked the ball towards the left post. Prescott battled a Rochester defender for possession and pushed her shot across the goal line.
In the first half, the nationally-ranked Yellowjackets wasted little time in opening the scoring. Courtney Dunham scored on Rochester's first penalty corner opportunity only 4:12 into the contest. Less than 10 minutes later, the Yellowjackets' Colleen Mallie scored after another penalty corner to extend the lead to 2-0. Rochester's seventh goal, by Amanda Strenk, followed another penalty corner opportunity.
The Yellowjackets' Nancy Bansbach converted a penalty stroke to give Rochester a 3-0 lead with 13:20 to play in the half.
Early in the second half, the Yellowjackets stretched their lead to five goals. Nikki Mercer and Strenk scored in a span of 57 seconds, then Bansbach tallied her second goal of the game.
Senior
Kimber Nourse started and finished with a game-high 16 saves for Nazareth in 52:55 of playing time. She allowed six of Rochester's goals. Freshman Amanda Chuttney played the final 17:05 and made a pair of saves and allowed one goal. The Golden Flyers were credited with two defensive saves, too. Kate Kujawa recorded two saves to earn the victory for the Yellowjackets. Rochester's defense was also credited with a defensive save.
The Yellowjackets dominated in shots (43-7) and penalty corner opportunities (15-5).
The Golden Flyers play non-conference games at Brockport on September 5th and Ohio Wesleyan on September 8th. Nazareth returns home on September 11th to host William Smith in another non-conference game.
