ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth unleashed 68 shots and won 19 of 21 face-offs Saturday to defeat Elmira in Empire 8 Conference men's lacrosse action, 16-1, at Notre Dame High School.
The victory enabled the Golden Flyers to snap a four-game losing streak and to improve to 3-9 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Elmira remained winless at 0-7, including 0-3 in E8 games.

Paul Walter led the offensive attack with three goals and one assist, while junior
Anthony Basile contributed one goal and three assists. Senior

Tim Vinton scored once and won 17-of-18 face-offs and scooped up seven ground balls.
Vinton won all five face-offs in the first quarter as the Golden Flyers were building a 4-0 lead. He won eight more in the second quarter as the lead grew to 11-0. The score reached 15-0 before the Soaring Eagles finally scored early in the fourth quarter.
Jacob opened the scoring with an unassisted tally at 12:29 of the first. Gray scored his first goal about four minutes later. Vinton won the ensuing face-off and needed just six seconds to scoop up the ground ball and to score Nazareth's third goal. Walter added an extra-man score at 5:13 off an assist from Basile.
Nazareth continued to dominate in the second quarter as Walter scored two more times, including his team-leading 20th goal at 8:10 off another extra-man pass from Basile. Gray and Jacob each scored again with sophomore
Jon Lippert, Basile and Avery also scoring.
Nazareth dominated possession time again in the third quarter and scored four more times, including the first career goal for freshman midfielder
Jacob Edmands off another extra-man assist from Basile. Sophomores
Kevin Hussey and colin McElligott also scored along with junior
Mike Riis. Avery closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal in the fourth quarter.
In addition to a 68-12 advantage in shots, Nazareth also control the ground ball battle with a 55-24 edge. Nazareth also scored on four of six extra-man chances. The Golden Flyers used five goalies with
Andrew Leahey playing the first quarter and gaining credit for the win without recording a save.
