Nazareth handles Houghton, 25-1

Golden Flyers host Alfred Saturday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth dominated Houghton from start to finish Tuesday in an Empire 8 men's lacrosse match as 16 different player scored in a 25-1 victory over the Highlanders.

Jack Crowley scored three times and Paul Walter, Jonathan Olbrich, Kevin Hussey, Drew McNerney, Jacob Edmands, Griffin Avery and Jesse Rubel scored twice each as the Golden Flyers won for the second straight time to improve to 4-9 overall and 2-1 in conference action. The Golden Flyers host Alfred Saturday in another E8 Conference matchup at 1 p.m. Houghton, which dropped to 1-9 overall and 0-3 in the E8, had a goal from Jonathan Mayer as its lone tally.

Nazareth scored eight times in the first quarter and seven more times in the second to build a commanding lead. The advantage swelled to 20-0 after three quarters, before Mayer scored unassisted for the Highlanders early in the fourth.

Nazareth had four first-time goal scorers in Rubel, Ismael Cisse, Dakota Allis and Nick McDonald. Other goal scorers were Colin McElligott, Jacob Gray, Mike Riis, Jon Lippert and Nick Rodin.

Nazareth had large statistical advantages in shots (54-10), ground balls (47-13) and face-offs (26-4). Sophomore Tim Vinton won 11 of 13 draws with 10 ground balls and senior Gavin Shaner won 15 of 17 face-offs with 12 ground balls.

The Golden Flyers used all five of their goalies with Andrew Leahey getting the start and making two saves in the first quarter. Alex Winkler had a save in the second quarter and Rick Kronenwett had two saves in the fourth.
