BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Visiting Nazareth used six second-half goals Tuesday to break up a close game as the Golden Flyers secured their first men's lacrosse victory of the 2018 season with an 11-5 triumph at Brockport's Bob Boozer Field.

In the first-ever lacrosse meeting between the two schools, Nazareth improved to 1-2 overall, while Brockport, coached by former Nazareth standout Ben Wineburg, dropped to 1-2. Nazareth's next game is Sunday, March 11 against Western New England at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse at 5 p.m.

Nazareth also had a solid defensive showing in front of sophomore goalie Alex Winkler, who made nine saves and yielded just one goal in the second half.

Nazareth seemed in control with a 5-1 lead in the second quarter, but the lead shrank to 5-4 before halftime as Brockport scored three times in the last three minutes with the final two goals coming just 10 seconds apart in the closing minute.

The Golden Flyers re-established momentum in the third quarter by scoring three unanswered goals. First Gray worked his way inside a Brockport defender, absorbed contact, but was able to score unassisted at 13:33. Four minutes later, Young worked his way around a screen to create separation for a shot that beat Brockport goalie Dallas Myers to make the score 7-4. He scored again with three minutes left in the quarter as the Golden Flyers took a four-goal cushion into the final 15 minutes.

Early in the fourth, Nazareth took advantage of a broken Brockport clear as Jack Crowley scooped up a loose ball and assisted Basile on the Golden Flyers' ninth goal. Just 29 seconds later, Crowley picked up another assist on Walter's third goal of the game.

Brockport's Jake Recor interrupted the scoring run with his third goal of the game off an assist from Nick Daigle. Just over a minute later, Young closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal that came off a blast from the left wing.

Brockport scored the game's first goal on its first shot – from Liam O'Connor – just 26 seconds into the contest. Nazareth had 12 first-quarter shots and finally broke through at 10:45 as Parker Lawrence cleared the ball into the Golden Flyers offensive end and delivered a pass to Walter for the finish.

Walter scored again at 6:12 with an assist from Young and freshman Jeremy Jacob added Nazareth's third goal with :19 left in the quarter.

The second quarter featured the first career goal for sophomore attackman Drew McNerney, who converted a pass from Basile following a broken Brockport clear. An unassisted goal by Gray made the score 5-1 just 55 seconds later.
