Owings Mills, MD – Nazareth was held to just two goals over the final 30 minutes as Lynchburg churned out a 10-6 victory Saturday in the Mustang Classic.
Paul Walter led Nazareth with three goals.
The Golden Flyers have now lost three straight games, falling to 1-5 on the year, while the Hornets move to 3-5. All of Lynchburg's losses this season have come to ranked opponents, including falling 13-11 on Friday to No. 1 RIT in its first game for the Mustang Classic.
Lynchburg got out to a hot start, scoring the first four goals of the game in the opening quarter, before Walter found the net with :12 seconds left to make it 4-1.
Walter had another goal with less than a minute to play in the second to bring Nazareth within 6-4, however, Lynchburg scored with just :01 second to play to get a momentum boost into the half.
Jacob Gray and
Jack Crowley also had first half goals for the Golden Flyers.
Lynchburg upped its lead to five after the third, 10-5, after outscoring the Golden Flyers 3-1.
Netminder
Alex Winkler, who had 11 saves in the game, did not allow a goal in the fourth quarter. Nazareth was unable to capitalize, scoring just one goal of its own on Walter's third of the day off an assist from
Myles Young.
Colin McElligott also scored for Nazareth.
