Box l Updated Stats

Rochester, NY - Seventh-ranked Cortland outscored Nazareth 6-2 in the second half to earn a 13-6 victory Thursday night in non-conference action.  With the loss, the Red Dragons have now won nine of the last 10 meetings with the Golden Flyers, dating back to 2008.

Nazareth falls to 0-2 on the season with the loss, while Cortland improves to 2-0.

The Golden Flyers held tough in the opening half.  Freshman Jeremy Jacob had three man-up goals for Nazareth, the first two coming in the opening half.

Myles Young scored his first goal for the Golden Flyers midway through the second quarter off an assist from Paul Walter to even the score at 4-4.

Cortland gained the momentum going into the half, scoring the next three goals to take a 7-4 halftime lead.

Nazareth struggled from the faceoff circle all day, going just 6-for-22.

Walter scored the first goal of the second half to bring the Golden Flyers within two, but then Nazareth went over 20 minutes without finding the net.  That drought allowed Cortland to go on a 5-0 run and open up the margin to 12-5 midway through the fourth.

Nazareth had a three minute extra-man opportunity in the third quarter due to an illegal stick, but came up empty.

Jacob ended the long scoring drought with his third goal of the game.

Jack Crowley also scored for Nazareth.

Alex Winkler made seven saves and allowed seven goals in the first 30 minutes.  Andrew Leahey finished the game with six goals allowed and four saves.

Nazareth will have its first away game of the season next Tuesday, traveling to SUNY Brockport for a 4 p.m. contest.
