ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Host Nazareth got a much-needed men's hockey win
Sunday afternoon, dropping Chatham 4-0 in UCHC action to snap a five-game losing streak.
With the victory, Nazareth is now 9-10-2 overall and 6-5-1 in league play, while Chatham drops to 1-17-4 and 1-12, respectively. The Golden Flyers, currently seventh place in league standings with four games remaining, hit the road for their next two games, beginning with Neumann at
7 p.m. next Friday.
Nazareth dominated from start to finish with a 51-16 edge in shots on goal and freshman goalie
Sean Kuhn was credited with his first career shutout by making 16 saves.
Neither team was able to find the net in the opening 20 minutes, one which the Golden Flyers dominated by generating 23 shots to Chatham's 8. Nazareth had the first two power plays of the game, but came up empty.
It didn't take long for Nazareth capitalize on its opportunities in the second, with
Austin Romzek scoring his sixth goal of the season on the power play. The junior circled back into the center with the puck and roofed it into the top left corner for the 1-0 lead.
Nazareth kept the pressure on-going, with
Ray Falso scoring his seventh goal of the season with seven minutes to play in the period.
Zander Pryor carried the puck up the left side and flicked a pass to Falso, who beat the Chatham goalie on-on-one down the middle to make it 2-0.
Nazareth's lead went to 3-0 when
James McDonald re-directed a shot from the point near the midway point of the third. It was his fourth goal of the year and was initiated on a shot by
Cody Antonini, who picked up an assist along with
Matt Manzella.
Brian Miller then closed out the Nazareth scoring with 1:03 left as he hammered in a shot from the slot after settling a pass from
Brad Pizzey.
Trever Ralph played well in goal for Chatham by making 47 saves.
