Jamie Martin had a career-high eight points on seven goals and one assist and senior
Haley DeVona added seven points on a goal and a career-high six assists Wednesday as host Nazareth recorded a signature women's lacrosse win with a 14-12 triumph over 14th-ranked Brockport.

Brianna Rizzari also compiled a career-best 15 saves as Nazareth improved to 1-1 overall, while Brockport was playing its season opener. The Nazareth victory snapped a six-game losing streak against the Golden Eagles, including one-goal defeats the last two seasons.
Nazareth led most of the game, but Brockport scored the first two goals of the second half to take the lead for the first time at 8-7. The Golden Flyers responded with five straight goals, including two by Martin, to take the lead for good at 12-8 with 16:56 left. Goals by senior

Bridget Collins kept Nazareth in front 14-10, before Brockport scored twice to close the gap to 14-12 with 3:36 left. Nazareth was able to run out the remaining time, thanks in part to another save by Rizzari and a successful clear.
The Golden Flyers got off to a good start as Martin scored the game's first four goals in the first eight minutes for a 4-0 advantage. Brockport came back to within 4-3, but Nazareth regained momentum on goals by DeVona and sophomore
Maeghan O'Brien. Brockport scored three straight goals to tie the score at 6-6, including the tying goal with :51 left in the half. Nazareth took back the lead, 7-6, with just :08 remaining in the half as Martin converted a pass from sophomore

After Brockport took the lead with two goals in the first four minutes of the second half, Martin scored the next two goals -- one off an assist from DeVona and one off an assist from O'Brien -- to trigger the five-goal outburst. Goals by Carroll, Collins and O'Brien in a short span of 3:25 completed the scoring run with Nazareth in command at 12-8.
O'Brien finished with two goals and two assists and Carroll and Collins were each credited with two goals.
Shots were even at 31-31 with Brockport holding a 15-12 edge in ground balls. Brockport scored on 6-of-11 free-position shots, while Nazareth converted 1-of-6.
Nazareth is home again March 7 for another non-conference game against University of Rochester.
