Volleyball Downs Fisher In Inaugural Meeting

Rochester, NY – Nazareth overcame a sluggish first set loss to string together three quality sets and a four set victory over St. John Fisher, 20-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-20 Wednesday night in the first-ever matchup of the two schools in men's volleyball. 

With the victory, Nazareth has now won four-straight matches to move to 11-6 overall and 2-1 in UVC play.  Meanwhile, Fisher falls to 9-9 overall and 0-3, respectively.

Nazareth hit .000 in the first set, with nine kills on 32 attempts and nine errors to get behind the eight ball, compared to .226 for the Cardinals (12 K, 5 E, 31 TA).

The second set was a different story as Nazareth hit .393 (16 K, 5 E, 28 TA) to get things rolling.  In particular, Sean Dillon had a perfect set with four kills on four swings, while Sam Bittker had five kills on seven attempts, with one error.  He finished with a team-high 11 kills.

Nazareth, which had four total blocks in the first two sets, put together six in the third to gain momentum.  Ethan Ross had a solo block and a block assist and the Golden Flyers made up for hitting just .050 in the set.

Kane Wittorff, who had nine kills (.333) in the win, finished off the fourth to seal the victory. He added four block assists in the match.

Gilllard had a balanced eight kill, nine dig, three block assist performance for Nazareth.

Jake Kemp dished out 35 assists, to go along with eight digs.

Dillon hit .429 with five kills.

Nazareth returns to Kidera Gym on Saturday, hosting Medaille at 10 a.m., followed by D'Youville at 4.
