DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Golden Flyers' men's basketball team salvaged a split of its two games in Florida Monday as Nazareth used a strong first half to gain a 73-56 victory over Gallaudet. Monday's game was in the consolation round of the Mauro Panaggio Invitational at DME Sports Academy.

After rough shooting display in Sunday's loss to Washington & Lee, the Golden Flyers raced to an early lead and never trailed against the Bison as they improved to 5-3 overall, while Gallaudet dropped to 1-10. Tyler Stenglein and Jake Burgio led the Golden Flyers with 15 and 14 points respectively. Stephen Gabel added nine points, Daniel Jacob had eight and Brendan Wind had eight points and seven assists.

Nazareth made 16 of 35 shots (47.1%) in the first half with five three-pointers to take a 45-30 lead. An 8-0 run to start the second half – three-pointers by Jacob and Tyler Stenglein and a bucket by Chris Jones – stretched the lead to 23 points at 53-30.

After Gallaudet scored, Nazareth countered with baskets by Gabel, Wind and Burgio to break the game open at 59-32 with 15:30 left. Although their shooting percentage dipped in the second half, the Golden Flyers remained comfortably ahead. In addition to his 14 points, Burgio added a team-high 10 rebounds and five assists. Tyler Stenglein's six field goals included three three-pointers. He also had four steals.

The Golden Flyers are now off until Jan. 4 when they open Empire 8 Conference play with a home game against Hartwick at 7:30 p.m.
